Cloud/sky vignette meaning.

In the book The House On Mango Street Sandra Cisneros brings up a lot of different subjects that seem to be repeated in a number of different vignettes. One particular subject that Cisneros  seems to repeat is clouds and skies. When she talks about them she uses it in a way as though she is looking to be free and wants a break from her own life. As you read on you soon find out that she symbolizes skies and clouds as her escape from the world she lives in now and how she wishes to be free, but some how does not know if she will ever seem to be able to reach her wish of being free.
                                                         I want to be...
like the clouds in the wind,
                                                         but I'm me.
                                                         One day I'll jump
                                                         out of my skin.
                                                         I'll shake the sky
                                                         like a hundred violins (pg.60-61)

As you can see in this poem by Cisneros from the vignette Born Bad, she compares her self to the clouds and the sky and how she wants to be like them because in her mind it represents freedom and to be independent. She is free and out on her own because it shows how it has it's own space and is not locked down or put in a position where she had no authority. She finally realizes that she can be by herself and doesn't have to worry bout anyone else except for herself.

...the windows would swing open, all the sky would come in.
Here you can see that she dreams of  maybe having her own house and being free from the so called horrible place she has now and now she can finally let her own dreams be free. This would eventually let her self to be free and to have the life she has always wanted. Cisneros uses skies and clouds as a way to symbolize her desire for freedom and now that she has imagined it maybe one day it will actually come true for her. In the end clouds and skies or only symbols eventually she is going to have to out though's dreams or symbols to real life and learn to set her self free on her own because it's hard enough to set your self free when you are used to the same old routine which is why symbols can on take you so far.
